Biography

I was raised in Texas and Connecticut and began my training at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts as a BFA student. While at NYU I was cast in Lanford Wilson’s Lemon Sky at Second Stage alongside Jeff Daniels and Cynthia Nixon. Lanford introduced me to the legendary Circle Rep Company, where I became a member, most notably performing in Craig Lucas’ Reckless. I was also a member of the fabled company Cucaracha, an innovative fixture of the downtown avant-garde theatre scene, known for their original, boundary-breaking work.

My first foray into film was the PBS American Playhouse version of Lemon Sky, this time with Kevin Bacon in the lead. From there I was fortunate to work with film directors such as Peter Weir (Dead Poet’s Society), Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas), and Nora Ephron (This Is My Life), and have gone on to play a myriad of parts on film and television. On stage I’ve performed both on and off-Broadway, as well as at noted regional theaters, originating roles in works by acclaimed playwrights such as John Patrick Shanley, Lisa Kron, Craig Lucas, Howard Korder, David Ives, Joanna Murray Smith, Amy Freed, Mac Wellman, and Keith Reddin, among others.

Over the last twenty years I have continued to further my education. In addition to NYU, I’m a graduate of the National Theatre Institute, hold a Bachelor of Science in Theatre Studies from CUNY (summa cum laude), and an MFA in Directing from Brooklyn College. I’ve taken private workshops with master teachers Anne Bogart, Slava Dolgachev, Joanna Merlin, Jane Nichols, Olympia Dukakis, Dakin Matthews, and many others. Continuing to learn, and to share that learning, is the great joy of my life. I’m a proud member of AEA, SAG-Aftra, The Actor’s Center, and the National Alliance of Acting Teachers.

As an adjunct professor at Brooklyn College since 2009, I have directed full productions, workshops and new-play readings, alongside teaching both undergraduate and MFA actors. Additionally, I design and teach acting workshops for a range of institutions and artistic communities. Privately I coach actors at all levels of experience, as well as individuals in the corporate world.

I live in Brooklyn with my husband, actor Damian Young, and our two children, Sabina and Henry.
