I work with actors at all levels of experience. Whether you’ve had years of training or are auditioning for your first role, the goal for me is always the same: building a living, breathing human being.
I meet each individual where they are. Every actor’s ‘way in’ to a particular text or role is distinct. My aim is to help you connect to the meaning underneath the words. I work to draw out each actor’s unique expression, allowing it to live in the moment, truthfully and spontaneously.
I am endlessly fascinated by characters. What makes them tick, why they behave the way they do, their idiosyncrasies, their hopes, dreams, and fears. Collaborating with actors to create a rich, complex inner life, and opening up a path to expressing a character’s needs through language and action is exhilarating.
For me, a compelling actor is one whose work feels effortless, alive, and necessary.

“I’ve known Welker since casting her in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas. She often brings her students to meet me and I always tell them how unusual it is to have an acting teacher who’s a great actor. They are very lucky.”
“Welker’s excitement for exploration and discoveries within the text is one of my favorite things about working with her. She encourages her clients to dive deep into their imaginations and become more specific about their choices.”

“Welker White’s THE ART and CRAFT of SCREEN ACTING intensive is the ideal opening for NYU Grad Acting’s new film curriculum. She deftly eases the students into an adjacent craft, and demystifies the eye through which the camera sees. The students love it.”

“Welker’s insight and professionalism relieved so much of the anxiety and stress that usually goes along with auditioning for grad schools. From choosing monologues to self-presentation to coaching the material itself, Welker’s advice was always spot on. Welker knew exactly how to draw out my best work and showcase my particular skill set. The confidence I was able to bring into the audition room simply would not have been possible without her help and guidance.”
“This class blew my mind. There was so much to learn about film. Welker and Damian made it all so understandable and accessible. They shared so much insider information and helped make the transition to film fun and educational. I loved every second of this class.”
